O Boticário is the old name for "pharmacist" and was the name adopted by Miguel Krigsner for his compounding pharmacy, which opened its doors on March 22, 1977, in the center of the city of Curitiba, in the state of Paraná. The idea came about after a course in Porto Alegre, which Krigsner attended, and where the artisanal compounding of medicines was beginning to be rediscovered, giving patients a personalized treatment option, especially in dermatology. More than just a pharmacy, it had to be a very pleasant place where people felt good. Instead of counters full of medicines, the store had a carpeted room, a sofa, magazines and coffee for those who wanted to wait for their prescription to be prepared. Thus began the special service that the brand maintains and improves to this day.
In the compounding pharmacy where the story of O Boticário began, instead of the usual pharmaceuticals, the owners themselves were at the counter, conveying an image of seriousness and trust. In a short time, and mainly due to word of mouth, people began to seek out these products, which were already synonymous with quality. It was in this context that Miguel Krigsner began, after manipulating recipes, to produce products under the O Boticário brand. He began by whipping creams in a mixer that his sister had received as a wedding present, and thus the first products were born - a moisturizing cream, a shampoo and a bath foam made from seaweed, and the brand's first cologne: the still famous Acqua Fresca.
In 1979, with several products from the O Boticário brand and with that special service, the brand's first exclusive store opened at Curitiba airport, which quickly became a perfume and cosmetics specialty desired by all other states in Brazil and widely publicized and transported by the crews who passed by and were enchanted by that special store.
A few years later, this once small pharmacy became the largest perfume and cosmetics chain in the world, with more than 3,600 stores in Brazil and around 600 points of sale in other countries.
Today, 37 years later, O Boticário has 60 physical stores in Portugal, this online store - where we are very happy to welcome you -, and a large network of resellers near you.
